Netflix to livestream Artemis II's lunar flyby
Netflix has confirmed that it will broadcast Artemis II's lunar flyby.
A representative of the streaming giant confirmed the news on Monday, Apr. 5, followed by a notice on Netflix's page about the official NASA+ Live.
Viewers in the Philippines can catch the stream on April 7 at 1 a.m. A 24/7 coverage of the Artemis II mission is also available via NASA's YouTube channel.
According to NASA's blog, the crew will enter the lunar sphere of gravitational influence at approximately 12:41 a.m. EDT on Apr. 6 (12:41 p.m. Philippine time).
For the period of the flyby, which will last for several hours, the Artemis 2 crew will observe the celestial body with their naked eyes, along with the cameras they have on board.
"I think it's important to remember that, you know, we don't always know exactly what they're going to see," Kelsey Young, the lead scientist for the Artemis II mission, told a press conference Sunday.
If all proceeds smoothly, as the Orion spacecraft whips around the Moon, the astronauts—Americans Christina Koch, Reid Wiseman and Victor Glover along with Canadian Jeremy Hansen—could set a record by venturing farther from Earth than any human before.
The Artemis II is an American space mission that is part of a longer-term plan to repeatedly return to the Moon to establish a permanent lunar base for further exploration. The crew is the first people to launch toward the moon since the Apollo 17 mission way back in 1972.
They are expected to return to Earth on April 11. (with reports from AFP)
