Man elopes with his soon to be mother-in-law days before his wedding
An Indian man reportedly eloped with his supposed-to-be mother-in-law days before his wedding.
According to a Times of India report, a 25-year-old man named Rahul and his supposed mom-in-law, Anita, went missing on April 6, 10 days before the former’s wedding to Anita’s daughter.
Rahul reportedly left home with an excuse that he would be shopping for his wedding attire. However, later in the evening, he called his father and said, “I’m leaving. Don’t try to find me.” Anita was also said to have gone missing, but didn’t leave any messages for her family. Both of their families searched for them and reported the incident to the police.
Meanwhile, CNN reported that the emergence of a photo of the two online angered the fiancée. Rahul's supposed-to-be father-in-law called him to confirm whether he was with his wife, which Rahul denied. He later admitted to it before he told his father-in-law to forget about Anita.
The family members said Rahul and Anita’s romance began six months ago when the latter gifted him a mobile phone. People also alleged that Rahul would often visit his in-laws' house and talk to Anita for hours, which they did not find suspicious, per The Straits Times.
The father-in-law said that the two brought his daughter’s jewelry and 350,000 rupees (more than P200,000) in cash, which was supposed to be used for the wedding.
Police said that since they are both adults, no first information report can be registered.
“However, the woman’s family has submitted a written complaint that she has taken jewelry and cash from the house,” the police said. “Therefore, after registering a disappearance complaint, surveillance and police teams have been engaged in the investigation."
The police are now locating their whereabouts.
