Following the wins of Philippine Bets, John Jeffrey Carlos in 2019 and Leonard Kodie Macayan in 2020, Joel Rey Carcasona is the new Mister Gay World 2021 after South Africa’s Louw Breytenbach renounced his title due to alleged contract dispute with Mr. Gay World Organization.

In an interview, the 28-year-old registered nurse is humbled and grateful to be appointed as the new titleholder as he can use this to push for his advocacy of promoting universal health care and welfare of the people especially the LGBTQ+ Community. He also said that his advocacy is very timely due to the ongoing pandemic.

“Helping people provide the right information and encouraging my fellow health care workers to wear rainbow pins, badges, or lanyards so we could have a friendlier, happier, and most of all, a healthier community,” he said.

Furthermore, Carcasona wants to amplify voices of LGBTQ+ Community as he works as an ambassador of LoveYourself Inc. and of Gaynitiative.Ph, a Cebu-based organization that gives aims to provide a safe space for LGBTQ+ members.

“Together let’s continue to fight for our rights. Together let’s work until total equality becomes status quo and discrimination will be ancient history,” Carcasona shared in a Facebook post.

Carcasona will be working hand-in-hand with Mr. Gay World 2020 Kodie Macayan as the concurrent titleholders in spreading the word and raise valuable funds for LGBTQ+ organizations across the globe.

Meanwhile, the said winning streak of the Philippines is planning to be submitted by MGWPH National Director Mr. Wilbert Tolentino together with his team headed by Mr. Ryan Soto in the Guinness World Records as the first back-to-back-to-back win in an international pageant making it a history in global pageantry.

“My prediction came true apparently. I remember during the send-off press conference of Janjep Carlos who competed in South Africa and won; I vividly remember that I prophesied a winning streak for 3 consecutive crowns,” said Tolentino who is also known for managing talents like Madam Inutz.

“When Joel Carcasona was appointed as the 3rd Mr. Gay World for 2021, I knew we are making history because this is the first time in an international pageant, a country won 3 consecutive years; and all of them are under my supervision which really made me so proud of this milestone so I decided to submit this achievement to the Guinness World Records,” he added.

Mr. Gay World Competition is a 21st Century public performance intended for gay people where the delegates represent their nation as the best spokesperson and embody the spirit of their nation in order to find a worldwide ambassador and spokesperson for LGBTQ+ rights and a role model for LGBTQ+ youth.
