A former basketball player for the National Collegiate Athletic Association died hours after getting shot in M'lang in Cotabato.

Pilipino Star Ngayon reported that Ken Fred "Kentoy" Segura died while receiving treatment in the hospital after the shooting. He was 26.

According to M'lang Municipal Police Station, Segura was with his nephew, driving along the national highway covered by Barangay Pulanglupa after attending a basketball event.

They asked for directions from residents along the way until the gunman appeared and fired bullets at Segura, GMA News reported. The basketball player's nephew survived the incident.

The gunman escaped using the player's vehicle. Police later found a vehicle similar to the one he had used.

The driver escaped, but his partner was arrested. They're considered persons of interest.

Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the crime.

Segura, also known as “Mr. Piso-Piso,” hailed from Digos in Davao Del Sur. He was a shooting guard for Arellano University Chiefs.

He then joined the Roxas Vanguards and the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, being part of Quezon City-MG Cars and Bulacan Kuyas-Baliuag AcroCity. He also played for Manila CityStars in the Pilipinas Super League.

He left behind two children.
