Sword swallower gets 'near fatally injured' after five-sword swallowing stunt
Famous sword swallower Scott Nelson, who is also known as "Murrugun The Mystic," vowed to stop incorporating swords into his shows after getting "near fatally injured" during one of his sword-swallowing performances.
A report by PEOPLE said that the talent performed a five-sword swallowing stunt with swords measuring between 24 and 28 inches long and half-inch wide at Six Flags America. Fifteen minutes into the stunt, he began feeling ill. He then got rushed to the hospital "in serious but not life-threatening condition," as reported by NBC News Center Maine.
Nelson said: "Five swords scissored out in my abdominal cavity. It also appears that I pierced the lobe of my liver. Good news is, I've quit smoking and lost over 50 lbs."
According to Demetrius Antuña, the man who organized a GoFundMe page to fund his medical expenses, the talent has been confined in a hospital in Washington, D.C. for over a month now, "unable to eat solid food."
It's also stated in the online fundraiser that doctors "had to remove most of one of his lungs and initially the doctors did not think he was going to make it."
Grateful for having escaped death, ABC 10 News reported he is "now rethinking his longtime passion" after the health scare.
“I won’t be swallowing any more swords. I can never put my mother through this, ever, ever again,” he said.
