Makati City is now home to Asia’s first Catholic exorcism center after its inauguration in late February.

Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula led the blessing of the establishment,  known as St. Michael Center for Spiritual Liberation, on Feb. 23 in Guadalupe, Makati.

According to the Archdiocese of Manila, the center will serve as the headquarters of the Philippine Association of Catholic Exorcists under the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines and the Archdiocese of Manila.

During his homily, Advincula highlighted that the center is a "public proclamation that the Church continues to take the reality of spiritual struggle seriously, and that she stands with a sure and unshakeable confidence and hope in the victory of Christ over all forms of evil."

"There is a real spiritual conflict that runs through the world, through the human heart, through cultures, through institutions. The Church does not exaggerate when she speaks of evil, but neither does she despair before it," he said.

Advincula went on to explain that the building was named after Michael the Archangel, as he is "the defender of God’s sovereignty and the protector of the People of God."

"Every form of authentic spiritual liberation begins here: the restoration of God to His rightful place, which also means the restoration of man to the right place, free from all spiritual bondage," he said.

The groundbreaking for the three-storey structure within the Our Lady of Guadalupe Minor Seminary took place on May 17, 2022. It was built to help those who have been afflicted with alleged demonic possessions as well as to train exorcists.
