Here's why Princess Kate Middleton took time to announce her cancer diagnosis
A former royal aide to Prince William and Kate Middleton revealed why the Princess of Wales took time to announce that she had cancer.
In an interview with 60 Minutes Australia, Jason Knauf, who worked with the British royals for seven years, shed light on Kate's condition.
"They didn't want to say yet that she had cancer because they hadn't told the children and they were still working through how to tell the children," he confirmed.
William and Kate have three children: Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.
"It was awful, absolutely awful. It's the lowest I've ever seen him," he told the media outlet.
Knauf continued, "Within a couple of weeks if you're Prince William, you find out that both your wife and your father have cancer. I couldn't believe it."
In case you missed it, Princess Kate announced in March 2024 that she is battling cancer.
This came just weeks after the UK's head of state, King Charles III, revealed he, too, was receiving treatment for cancer.
Princess Kate's recoveries
In September, Kate announced that she had finished chemotherapy treatment and was striving to be "cancer-free" in an emotional video message.
A week later, she took a first step towards returning to work on the early-years development of children, meeting with staff from the Royal Foundation Center for Early Childhood which she established.
In October, the Prince and Princess of Wales made their first joint public engagement since the latter ended a course of chemotherapy for cancer.
According to Kensington Palace, they visited Southport in northwest England during that time "to show support to the community and hear how local people have come together" as the town recovered from a July knife attack that killed three children.
Recently, Kate said she's in remission from cancer after she and her husband visited the specialist London hospital where she was treated.
"It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focussed on recovery," she revealed in an Instagram post.
"As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support."
