Filipino photojournalist Hannah Reyes Morales has been tapped as one of the photographers for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.

Alongside Russia's Nanna Heitmann, the two will showcase a photography exhibition in Oslo, Norway to highlight this year's Nobel Peace Prize winners.

This year's laureates, Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov, won the prestigious award for championing press freedom through "their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace."

Per the Nobel Peace Center, Morales will present a photo series depicting the prevalence and power of social media in the Philippines.

“This work is personal: like many of us at home, watching the consistent assault on truth has been deeply disturbing," Morales shared through the Nobel Peace Center.

"I’ve been able to take a closer look at the chaos that is rooted online, and in the dark, I was reminded constantly that on the other side of the screen are people.”

Meanwhile, Nobel Peace Center Director of Exhibitions, Nina Frang Høyum said: "We are very happy to have worked with two such talented, young documentary photographers, who are also from the Nobel Peace Prize laureates’ home countries. They are therefore very experienced in working under trying conditions for freedom of the press and expression."

With her focus on safe-space making and caregiving, Morales' works have been published in The Washington Post, The New York Times, National Geographic, Al Jazeera, The Southeast Asia Globe, and more.

Her recent work with National Geographic is Living Lullabieswhich sees the photographer documenting night-time rituals of caregivers from countries fraught with risk.
