Man who got friendzoned accuses woman for trauma, sues her for S$3 million or P124.5M

How far can you go for being friendzoned?

A Singaporean man filed a case against a woman after finding out that she is not interested in any romantic relationship with him and only sees him as a friend.

The appealer, K. Kawshigan, claimed that his heartbreak with Nora Tan caused him “damage to his stellar reputation” and “trauma, depression and impacts” to his life.

According to The Straight Times, he filed two lawsuits against her with a S$3 million (P124 million) High Court claim for bringing him emotional trauma.

Kawshigan's dilemma began when the woman reportedly lost contact with him on May 14, 2022, after being his "closest friend" since 2016.

On July 7, Kawshigan sued Nora Tan in a High Court claim stating that he suffered a loss in his personal earnings and business partnerships, as well as the total cost wasted from the therapy sessions due to his emotional distress.

Meanwhile, the woman claimed that she felt genuine discomfort despite agreeing to be in counseling with the man for one and a half years as she thought it would help him cope with their status. The businessman stopped the counseling after seeing them becoming futile.

Regardless of his claims, State Courts deputy registrar Lewis Tan asserted that the lawsuit filed was "manifestly groundless and without foundation."

“Considered in totality, I find that the present action was intentionally initiated by the claimant with the ulterior motive of vexing or oppressing the defendant by requiring her to defend various claims that fundamentally stem from the same factual matrix in different forums,” Judge Tan said.

“This court will not be an accessory to his calculated attempt to compel engagement from the defendant who, after years of massaging the claimant’s unhappiness, has finally decided to stand up to his threats rather than cower and give in to his demands,” he added.

The woman then received an immediate protection order and was allowed to engage with a lawyer for her counterclaim. She started her harassment proceedings against him in April 2022.

The preliminary hearing of both parties will be done on February 9.
