No need to cash in: GCash will soon let you pay via QR through linked Mastercard, Visa cards
GCash will soon allow users to make QR payments via their linked Mastercard and Visa cards.
On Aug. 3, the e-wallet announced the forthcoming feature, which lets users seamlessly link credit and debit cards directly as a payment source for transactions.
With this, there's no need to manually cash in from your banking app to your GCash wallet for in-store purchases.
Users can link up to three Visa or Mastercard debit or credit cards to their GCash account, set a default payment card, and manage or unlink cards within the app.
To link a card, users can click Cash In on their GCash dashboard, select "Can't Cash in? Link your debit/credit card," and enter their card details.
On their next QR transaction, they can simply select the Card option to pay. A new option will appear under GCash and GCredit.
The e-wallet company has also assured users of security measures with the new feature. It said that card linking will be authenticated with a one-time password and transactions will be verified through biometrics or a PIN.
According to a GCash press release, the feature is expected to be rolled out nationwide this August.
Currently, users in need of more funds can top up their GCash wallets over-the-counter at cash-in machines like eTap and Pay&Go, convenience stores, pawnshops, and payment facilities. They can also do so via InstaPay through local and global banking apps.
