Man dies in paragliding accident in Spain
A British man has died in a paragliding accident in Spain.
According to a report by BBC, the 63-year-old had an accident in Palau de Noguera, a small village in Catalonia’s Lleida province, while paragliding on Wednesday, June 17.
Fire services received a report of the incident at 1:30 p.m. local time. Three fire brigade teams came to the individual's rescue and administered first aid.
Two Medical Emergency System teams arrived at the scene before the man eventually succumbed to serious injuries.
Officials have not yet identified the cause of his death, but local media outlets reported that the man was apparently tangled in power lines before hitting the ground.
Palau de Noguera, an hour and a half south of the Pyrenees mountains, is a short distance away from Àger, a paragliding hotspot recognized as safe for free flying by the Catalan and Spanish Air Federation.
While the man's identity is yet to be identified, authorities are expected to inform the British man's family about the incident through consular channels.
The UK Foreign Office said it will extend support to the family of the British man following the tragedy.
