Traslacion 2026: Activities, procession route, and everything else you need to know
Thousands of devotees are expected to flock to Quiapo Church for this year's Traslacion.
The Traslacion, or Feast of the Black Nazarene, is held every January 9 to commemorate the transfer of the Black Nazarene image from the Recoletos Church in Intramuros to its current home at Quiapo Church, an event which was held over 400 years ago.
During this event, devotees pray and hope to touch the image, believing it brings blessings and protection.
PMaj. Philip Ines told Super Radyo dzBB on Saturday that approximately 15,000 PNP personnel will be deployed to maintain order and security during the procession. Metro Manila-based units of the Armed Forces of the Philippines will also assist in the event.
Meanwhile, the EcoWaste Coalition group has called for the prevention and/or reduction of waste during the event, incidentally, as Zero Waste Month is observed annually in January.
Activities leading to the procession have also kicked off, including barangay visitation that will continue until Jan. 6, novena masses on Jan. 8 and 9, and today's Blessing of Replicas of Jesus Nazareno.
The send-off ceremony will be on Jan. 7, followed by Pahalik until Jan. 9. Cardinal Jose Advincula will officiate a mass on Jan. 9, at 12 a.m. before the procession.
