Airfares to get pricier as fuel surcharge increases in March
Travelers, here's something to watch for: Airfares are about to climb as the government announced a hike in the fuel surcharge beginning March.
In an advisory, the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) stated that under CAB Resolution No. 25, the passenger and cargo fuel surcharge for domestic and international flights will be designated to Level 5 (from Level 4) from March 1 to 31.
This means the P151 charge for domestic flights will increase to P542, while the P498.03 charge for international flights will also hike to P3,703.11.
The exact amount varies based on flight route and duration.

Level 4, meanwhile, translates to a fare between P117 and P342 for domestic flights and P385.70 and P2,867.82 for international flights.
Airlines wishing to impose or collect fuel surcharge for the same period must file an application with CAB on or before the effectivity period, with fuel surcharge rates not exceeding the above-stated level.
The agency also reminded carriers that the applicable conversion rate in collecting fuel surcharge for October is 1 USD = P58.46.
The fuel surcharge is a fee that airlines may include in the base fare to help offset the ever-fluctuating costs of jet fuel.
