Baguio’s chilly weather is just right to make this flower bloom

With temperatures going as low as 10 degrees Celsius, Baguio City is definitely giving winter vibes.

While the chilly weather may be too cold for some, it’s just the perfect environment for a rare kind of flora to thrive.

After seven long years of patience and care, Baguio Country Club announced on a Facebook post that its sakura or cherry blossom trees have finally bloomed.

"Sakura trees are known to take years before flowering, making this first bloom a true testament to patience, nature, and time," the club captioned. "A fleeting yet beautiful reminder that some of the most rewarding sights are worth the wait."

Famous for its ornamental pink and white flowers, cherry blossoms are a symbol of impermanence, hope, and renewal, according to the Japan National Tourism Organization. They are known to bloom from March to May in the East Asian country, signaling spring or harvest time.

Japanese nationals Mr. Shinji Okomora and Mr. Shingeru Tsunashima, along with BCC member Mr. Paz Suzuki, donated the flowering plants in June 2018 and May 2019.

Apart from the Baguio Country Club, there are other areas in the Philippines where sakuras bloom from March to April. Check them out here.

If you're planning to see cherry blossoms in Japan, take note that they're expected to appear as early as March 19 in Nagoya until May 1 in Sapporo. Meanwhile, in Tokyo, the flowers are expected to be in full bloom on March 26.

Visa-free countries you can visit to see the beautiful flowers include Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, and Brazil.
