LTO summons driver for stopping at NLEX to pick up dead animal

The Land Transportation Office issued a show-cause order against the driver who stopped in the middle of NLEX so their passenger could pick up a dead animal.

The incident happened on Thursday, Feb. 26. In a viral video posted by "Cosh's Chiquitings" on Facebook, a Toyota Vios is seen making a full stop at the expressway. A female passenger then alights from the car and picks up a dead animal in front of the vehicle.

"The act, though seen by some as compassionate, posed serious risks to incoming vehicles," the LTO said in a statement shared on its Facebook page.

The agency has summoned the owner and the driver of the sedan.

They are given until March 10 to explain why the driver shouldn't be charged for the violation of Reckless Driving and Obstruction of Traffic, and why his driver's license shouldn't be suspended, revoked, or "be disqualified for being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle."

According to the LTO, his driver's license is preventively suspended for 90 days, while the vehicle will be put on alarm status.
