Artificial lake managed by Hong Kong Disneyland closed 'until further notice' after burned body found
An artificial lake managed by Hong Kong Disneyland has been closed indefinitely upon the discovery of a partially burned body on Jan 26.
Local outlets The Standard and South China Morning Post reported that Inspiration Lake Recreation Center on Lantau Island had suspended its operations "until further notice." Its main gate was closed on Jan. 27, preventing access to the premises.
Hong Kong Disneyland also confirmed the news on its official website.
Police officers were seen inside the center conducting an investigation.
A couple were reportedly jogging near the center on the afternoon of Jan. 26 when they found the body at the base of a tree.
The center's staff members reported it to the police at 3:30 p.m.
Officers and Fire Services Department personnel arrived at the scene and upon investigation, classified the case as a “dead body found."
They found burns on the upper part of the body, but not personal belongings or traces of accelerants.
The 12-hectare Inspiration Lake Recreation Center is located at Penny’s Bay, which is about a kilometer away from Hong Kong Disneyland.
