Women have since been fighting menstrual pain in silence, and it's not one to be taken lightly. That is why an executive order was recently issued by the provincial government of La Union, which grants its female employees benefits for when they have their period.

Executive Order No. 25 was signed by La Union Governor Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David on Tuesday, Oct. 18, to provide the LGU's female employees with "Menstrual Privilege" that allows them to work from home for two days every month during their period.

"Hawak ko ang pirmadong Menstruation Privilege by virtue of Executive Order No. 25, series of 2022, Kaprobinsiaan," Ortega-David wrote in the post where she is seen standing along with the female employees of the provincial government.

"With this EO, mayroon nang two-day per month privilege na makukuha ang female employees ng Provincial Government ng La Union on their period days where they can 'avail therefore for a work-from-home arrangement."

Apart from this, the LGU will be supplying "every office" with menstrual kits.

In an interview with the Philippine News Agency, Zeny Aspiras, administrative officer at the LGU's Human Resource Management Office, said that although the EO permits female employees to work from home, "it will still be output-based as per the existing rules under Civil Service Commission (CSC)."

The CSC memorandum, approved last May 18, allows government employees "regardless of the status of appointment" to "render services away from their office" from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.

Aspiras added that details of La Union provincial government's "Menstrual Privileges" are still being finalized.

Ortega-David, meanwhile, said that the recently approved EO aims to "spread awareness and be kinder to our remale employees lalong-lalo na sa kanilang period days."

"To all our female employees, this EO is my hug to each of you," she added.
