Disney to delay Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar movies due to writers' strike
Disney is reportedly delaying the release dates of its Marvel, Star Wars, and Avatar movies due to the strike of thousands of writers over issues on pay and conditions in the streaming era.
Multiple American outlets, including the Deadline, reported that due to the strike, many of the screenplays aren't ready just yet and productions paused.

- Captain America: Brave New World, from May 3, 2024, to July 26, 2024
- Thunderbolts, from May 26, 2024, to Dec. 20, 2024
- Untitled Alien Event movie, now dated on Aug. 16, 2024
- Blade, from Sept. 6, 2024, to Feb. 14, 2025
- Untitled Deadpool movie, from Nov. 8, 2024, May 3, 2024
- The Amateur, now dated on Nov. 8, 2024
- Avatar 3, from Dec. 20, 2024, moves to Dec. 19, 2025
- Fantastic Four, from Feb. 14, 2025, to May 2, 2025
- Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, from May 2, 2025, to May 1, 2026
- Moana, now dated on June 27, 2025
- Untitled Star Wars, from Dec. 19, 2025 to May 22, 2026
- Avengers: Secret Wars, from May 1, 2026, May 7, 2027
- Untitled Star Wars now dated Dec. 18, 2026
- Avatar 4, from Dec. 18, 2026, to Dec. 21, 2029
- Avatar 5, from Dec. 22, 2028, to Dec. 19, 2031
The WGA is striking against Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers—which represents major studios like Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Disney, Discovery-Warner, NBC Universal, Paramount, and Sony—as they failed to finalize their collective bargaining agreement which expired on May 1.
The WGA, which has over 11,000 members, had been asking for higher pay and more healthcare benefits. In particular, it wants better compensation for its members' works appearing on the streaming giants.
The WGA also wants to address the future impact of artificial intelligence on writing.
