Filipino chocolate brands Malagos and Auro Chocolate are among the best chocolates in the world in 2025, according to TasteAtlas

Based on the list on Friday, Oct. 24, Malagos' 85% Dark Chocolate placed 19th. The food guide described it as "distinctly rich and robust chocolate product" featuring high cacao content, which gives a "deep, intense flavor profile and a complexity that appeals particularly to connoisseurs of fine chocolate."

It noted how it stands out with its minimalist ingredients, consisting of cocoa mass, cocoa butter, and sugar.

"The chocolate is produced using beans sourced from the Malagos farms in Davao, a region known for its high-quality cacao. This direct-from-farm approach ensures the purity and traceability of the chocolate, aligning with the company's commitment to sustainable and responsible farming practices," it wrote.

Meanwhile, Auro's 42% Milk Hojicha ranked 71st. This treat, consisting of rich flavors of roasted green tea (Hojicha) with creamy milk chocolate, gives a "unique chocolate experience that brings out the nuanced flavors of both the tea and the chocolate," per TasteAtlas.

"Auro Chocolate, renowned for its high-quality bean-to-bar products, ensures a harmonious balance between the roasted notes of Hojicha and the smoothness of milk chocolate," the food guide noted.

Topping this year's list is Amano Chocolate's Raspberry Rose from the United States. Also included in the top five are Italy’s Chuao 70% by Domori, Canoabo 70% from Franceschi Chocolate in Venezuela, Belvie Ben Tre 70% from Vietnam, and Cassava 70% Öko-Caribe from Definite Chocolate in the Dominican Republic.

TasteAtlas is "an encyclopedia of flavors." It features a collection of maps of traditional dishes, local ingredients, and authentic restaurants that have earned recognition locally and worldwide.

It has recognized Philippine cuisine several times. Last August, it named arroz caldo, lugaw, and champorado as among the best porridges in the world.

Davao-based Malagos was founded in 2013. It is known for its single-origin dark chocolate bars (like 65%, 72%, and 85%), as well as drinking chocolate (tablea), cocoa butter, and flavored bars, all promoting ethical and sustainable farming.

Auro Chocolate, on the other hand, founded in 2015 by Mark Ocampo and Kelly Go, is a tree-to-bar company that sustainably sources fine cacao directly from farming communities in Davao. They offer a range of products, including dark, milk, and white chocolate bars, single-estate reserves, baking ingredients like couverture coins and cocoa powder, and are known for showcasing unique Filipino flavors.
