Trump and Melania test positive for Covid-19

US President Donald Trump has tweeted that he and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for Covid-19.

Trump has never quarantined before even when his personal valet tested positive for coronavirus in May.

Trump tweeted earlier today, "Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for Covid 19. Terrible! The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!"

Hicks, a senior aide and close friend of the president, tested positive after traveling with him on Air Force One and Marine One this week.

Trump earlier said on Fox News’ Hannity, “(Hope Hicks) did test positive, I just heard about this. She tested positive. She's a hard worker. Lot of masks, she wears masks a lot but she tested positive. Then I just went out with a test. I'll see—you know, because we spent a lot of time—and the first lady just went out with a test also. So whether we quarantine or whether we have it, I don't know."

On Trump's trips this week to Cleveland and Minnesota with several senior advisers including Hicks, Jared Kushner, Dan Scavino and Nicholas Luna, no one wore a mask. Trump has often downplayed wearing a mask and routinely mocks those who do.

The 74-year-old president belongs in the highest-risk category for Covid-19 complications.

The US has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the world with 7,494,671 million infected and 212,660 deaths.
