'It's about time sizt': Netizens rejoice as Angkas drops plastic shield barriers under Alert Level 1

Motorcycle ride-hailing app Angkas announced that it will finally be getting rid of plastic shields in areas under Alert Level 1.

"THE BARRIER/SHIELD WILL NOT BE USED ANYMORE. It's about time sizt, sa wakas," Angkas wrote on Facebook on March 2.

Commuters are also no longer required to bring their own helmet. "Kami na bahala sa helmet mo. Para wala ka nang dala-dalang helmet pag nasa mall, mahirap lumandi pag ganun," the announcement read.

However, passengers can still bring and use their own helmets while riding for hygienic purposes.

On social media, netizens are rejoicing with the latest announcement.

"Paalam sa barrier na nanapak ng pasahero hahah," one user wrote.

Another said they will miss the unintelligible conversations between them and the rider. "Sa wakas di na madadagdagan yung gasgas sa visor ng helmet ko," they commented on Facebook.
"Wala nang barrier na kumakatok sa noo mo o tumutulak sa yo habang nagra-ride! Sa wakas. Salamat @angkas," a Twitter user said.

In the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Angkas riders had to wear a backpack-like plastic barrier as a way to keep social distancing between them and the commuter.

However, this implementation drew flak as commuters pointed out that riders and passengers are already wearing helmets and masks that can prevent the spread of the virus.

To celebrate the ease of restrictions, Angkas rolled out promo code NEWNORMAL, which will give passengers P40 off two rides until March 3.

From March 1 to 15, Metro Manila will be placed under Alert Level 1, the most lenient status, as daily COVID-19 cases in the country decrease. On March 2, the Department of Health logged 866 new infections.
