No foul play in death of employee who was found dead in grocery store’s walk-in oven—police
No evidence of foul play was found in the death of an employee who was discovered lifeless inside a supermarket's walk-in oven.
In a news release, Halifax Regional Police said that the death of the woman who was found dead in the bakery department of a Walmart store in Canada in October was "determined not to be suspicious."
"There is no evidence of foul play," authorities noted, adding that they have "met with family to share this update and extend condolences."
"Our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time," they said. "The family asks the public to respect their privacy and the dignity and memory of their loved one, as they receive this news."
According to Martin Cromwell—public information officer for Halifax Regional Police—various interviews and video footage review were conducted during the course of their investigation, where they "worked very closely" with their partners at Nova Scotia Department of Labor and medical examiner service."
"We do not believe anyone else was involved in the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death," he continued, saying it will be the last update on the incident.
The store remains closed until further notice due to what happened, per Walmart spokesperson Amanda Moss.
"We are heartbroken and our deepest thoughts are with our associate and their family," she said in a statement sent to ABC News. "Our focus remains on taking care of our associates and making sure they have the support they need."
Moss told CTV News that Walmart is offering employees on-site support, including grief counseling and virtual care access.
The Nova Scotia Department of Labor, Skills, and Immigration, meanwhile, has issued a stop work order for the bakery department and a piece of equipment at Walmart.
