LOOK: Celebrities join the Nov. 30 anti-corruption protests
Filipinos again gather in various protests all over the country to call for accountability in the investigation of the alleged corruption in anomalous flood control projects.
Among the major rallies happening on Bonifacio Day, Nov. 30, are the Baha sa Luneta 2.0 at Rizal Park in Manila and the Trillion Peso March at the People Power Monument in EDSA.
As civic, religious, student groups, and more flock to different demonstrations, celebrities and other personalities join to condemn corruption. Here are some who took part in the Nov. 30 protests.
Catriona Gray
Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray was among the personalities who took the stage at the Trillion Peso March.
"When corruption wins, 'yung mga nakaupo lang ang nananalo! Sila ang nabubusog, sila ang nakakauwi sa mga mansyon sa America, sila ang nakakabili ng designer bags habang ang tao ng bayan lumulubog sa baha, sa utang, at kahirapan. That's why today we demand action," she said, according to livestreams of the protest.
"To the Ombudsman, file the cases now! To the Senators, suspend the senators implicated! And to the Congress, pass the political dynasty bill because power should not be inherited, it should be earned through service of the people."
Kakie Pangilinan
Kakie Pangilinan joined her father, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, at the Trillion Peso March in EDSA. She's seen wearing a white shirt with the text, "No Mercy for the Greedy" in red.
Maris Racal
The Sunshine star joined the Philippine-Palestine Friendship Association at the Luneta protest. Donning a black shirt and a white cap, she carried a sign that read, "No to dynasty of thieves."
Carmi Martin
Veteran actress Carmi Martin took the stage at the Baha sa Luneta rally.
Miss Earth Water 2024 Bea Millan-Windorski
Filipino American beauty queen Bea Millan Windorski, who was crowned Miss Earth Water 2024, shared a video of protesters walking along Roxas Boulevard in her Instagram stories.
Pokwang
Actress Pokwang took to Instagram stories to share a video clip of her with protesters in white at the Trillion Peso March.
"Para sa mga anak ko at apo!" she wrote.
Flood control controversy
The Nov. 30 protests follow the demonstrations on Sept. 21, the anniversary of Martial Law, in which Filipinos raged over so-called ghost flood control projects.
On Nov. 24, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who has also been implicated by ex-Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co, announced that seven individuals tagged in the scandal are now in the custody of authorities.
This update came after Marcos said that an arrest warrant had been issued against Co and 17 others in connection with the flood control mess.
The Office of the Ombudsman has also filed graft and malversation cases against Co and several officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways and Sunwest Inc. in connection with the anomalies in a P289 million flood control project in Oriental Mindoro.
Marcos previously vowed jail time for the officials involved before the year ends.
