'Respeto' to stream on Netflix starting March 3
Award-winning 2017 indie movie Respeto will be available on Netflix starting March 3.
"Mag-ingay!!!" Respeto's official Facebook page wrote in a post, which was shared by director Treb Monteras.
Starring Abra of FlipTop fame and veteran actor Dido Dela Paz, Respeto revolves around Hendrix (Abra), an aspiring rapper who explores the underground rap battle scene. Hendrix forms an unlikely friendship with Doc (Dela Paz), an activist and poet who has long abandoned his art and has focused on his bookstore business instead.
Charged with poetry and music, the movie addresses the extrajudicial killings during the term of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
Respeto also touches on Martial Law imposed by the dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos, and how it gave rise to the culture of violence from one generation to the next.
The movie received several awards, including the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, Gawan Urian, Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards, and Entertainment Editors' Choice Awards.
It also received international nods and awards from India, Quebec, and Cyprus, and has been screened across Asia, Europe, and North America.
Respeto also stars Loonie, Chai Fonacier, Ybes Bagadiong, Nor Domingo, and Kate Alejandrino.
