Vehicle registration have been perceived by many motorists as exhausting work, with the long lines and sluggish process at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) branches. However, that may change starting today as the government agency has announced that vehicle renewals can now be done online.

In a release posted on their Facebook page, LTO stated that by using their newly-established Land Transportation Management System (LTMS), transactions to renew your vehicles can now last up to five to ten minutes only.

The online portal can now be accessible starting today, Feb. 14, according to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Jose Arturo Tugade. Through this method, you no longer have to wait long at the district offices of the agency.

This also allows motorists to have their vehicle registrations renewed no matter where they are as long as they have a stable internet connection and that they have created an account at LTMS.

LTO made it clear that if the details of your vehicle registration still haven't been inputed at the online portal, you can head to any of their district offices and have their team accomplish the online transaction for you.

However, Tugade reminded that before users are allowed to register for the portal, they must first secure a Certificate of Coverage, or an insurance that has been personally chosen by the owner, and have their vehicles be inspected by any Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Center (PMVIC) near them.

"Both the validated insurance and the motor vehicle inspection report will be electronically sent to the LTMS," Tugada said.

He also added that you are not required to finish the registration process in just one day.

"If your plate number ends with three, you have the whole month to get your choice of insurance coverage, have your vehicle inspected in any PMVIC near you, and access the LTMS portal for the online renewal. There’s no need for vehicle owners to spend a whole day renewing the registration of their vehicles," Tugade explained.
