State-run People's Television Network (PTV) said that it will “institute actions” against the members of its social media team who are behind last night’s tweet which used the hashtag #DutertePalpak.

In a statement posted on its Twitter account on Wednesday, March 17, PTV said that the “erroneous tweet” was a result of “predictive systems in the text entry” of the post that the network’s social media team was not able to review.

It added that the “PTV New Media deeply regrets the error and take full responsibility for the oversight.”

“The management will certainly institute disciplinary actions against members of the social media team who are behind the erroneous posting,” the statement ends.

The tweet that used the hashtag #DutertePalpak was posted on Tuesday, March 16 as a caption for a post sharing an article about President Rodrigo Duterte’s renewed call for the government to free facemasks to the public. The tweet reads: “President Rodrigo R. #Dutertepalpak BTS reiterated his order to provide free masks for the public especially to those who cannot buy their own.”

PTV addressed the tweet a few hours after it was posted, saying the “wrong hashtag was never in the original caption.”

The hashtag #DutertePalpak and South Korean boyband BTS were trending on Twitter at the time of the tweet’s posting.
