Quezon City has logged a 265% increase in COVID-19 cases in three weeks.

From May 21 to June 10, the city's Epidemiology and Surveillance Division (QCESD) recorded 23 confirmed cases of the illness. The figure went up to 84 cases from June 11 to July 1.

Surveillance data revealed that District 4 had the highest number of cases at 32.71%, followed by District 1 at 22.43%. Barangays with the most infections include Doña Imelda with 11 cases, Culiat, Salvacion, Santa Teresita, Santo Cristo, Sauyo, Socorro, and Tandang Sora, each with 4 cases.

The QCESD further reported that 30% of the cases were in children aged 14 and under. Meanwhile, individuals aged 25 to 29 as well as senior citizens 60 and up made up 16% of infections.

"Patuloy ang case monitoring at disease surveillance upang mabantayan ang sitwasyon at agad na matukoy ang mga posibleng clustering o pagdami ng kaso," the office said.

Authorities also urge the public to follow basic health protocols to combat the spread of COVID-19. This includes covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, wearing face masks if you have symptoms of COVID-19 or respiratory infection, avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and face before washing and sanitizing your hands, maintaining social distancing from those showing symptoms, and staying home if you're sick to stop curb transmission.

Parents are also urged to take their children to health centers if they have any respiratory illness. Persons with comorbidities and senior citizens are likewise urged to consult with their doctor if they experience any symptoms.

On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization classified COVID-19 as a pandemic.

The infectious disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and those infected experience mild to moderate respiratory illness, including fever, cough, tiredness, and loss of taste or smell.
