Do you know Taylor Swift all too well? The University of Texas in the United States may have just fulfilled the wildest dreams of a Swiftie student: a class about the award-winning singer-songwriter this fall, or in late September.
According to a report from USA Today, English professor Elizabeth Scala said the course ”Literary Contests and Contexts — The Taylor Swift Songbook" will be taught to freshmen in the Liberal Arts Honors program.
The course will provide an introduction to literary studies and research methods that uses Swift's songwriting, the university's English department had said in a Facebook post last May.
“Let’s turn that Easter Egg hunting and reading in detail to academic purposes!” the department said.
Last January, New York University offered a three-month "Taylor Swift Course," which tackled the life and legacy of the 32-year-old artist, from her country music origins to her evolution as a household name in the music industry. To further show its appreciation for Swift, the NYU granted her an honorary Doctor of Arts the following May, during which she delivered the commencement speech for the Class of '22.
The University of Texas, meanwhile, isn't being held back by gravity and just wants to make students happier. It's set to offer a Harry Styles class at its Honor College during the spring of 2023, or in March.
