LTO slaps 90-day suspension for license of motorist who beat up elderly bus driver
The Land Transportation Office has placed a 90-day suspension on the driver's license of a motorist who was caught on video physically assaulting an elderly bus driver in Cavite over the weekend.
In addition to the preventive suspension of his license, the LTO has also issued a show cause order against the motorist. He has been ordered to submit a sworn statement explaining why he should not be charged with reckless driving and obstruction, then appear at LTO's Intelligence Investigation Division on Friday, Oct. 24, to surrender his license.
Meanwhile, the motorist's vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, has been placed under alarm. This prevents any transactions involving the vehicle.
Failure of the Hilux driver to appear is equivalent to waiving his rights to be heard, and allowing LTO to decide on his case based only on the existing evidence.
In the viral video uploaded on the Department of Transportation's Facebook page, a Hilux driver can be seen punching and kicking the bus driver on the street. As the 19-second clip progresses, the Hilux driver hits the bus driver with his knee and keeps the bus driver from walking away. Throughout, a woman unsuccessfully attempts to calm down the Hilux driver.
According to the Silang Municipal Police Station, the incident began when the Hilux driver made a right turn, after which he collided with the bus.
