Filipina Tachiana Mangin claims silver in women's taekwondo at Asian Games 2026
In her Asian Games debut, Filipina jin Tachiana Keizha Mangin brought home a silver medal in women's taekwondo.
On Friday, Oct. 2, Mangin, 18, bagged silver after losing to China's Ma Jingyue in the final of the women's -49kg class.
It was a tough battle to the final for Mangin, having outlasted three opponents before landing on Mat 2 for the women's -49kg crown.
In the round of 16, Mangin dominated Kazakhstan's Rita Bakisheva, 2-1. The Filipino jin then edged out Chinese Taipei's Wang Chieh-ling, 2-1, in the quarterfinals. Mangin went on to defeat hometown bet Ruka Okamoto of Japan, 2-1, before going head-to-head against Ma in the final.
According to the Philippine Olympic Committee, Mangin's final match was officiated by referee Soomi Tomono of Japan, and scored by three judges: Sanny Harsono, Indonesia; Ryskul Taalaibekova, Kyrgyzstan; and Abdulwahed Gazala, Syria. Dmitriy Kim of Uzbekistan served as review jury and Ahmad Abu Hatab of Palestine served as technical assistant.
With Mangin's silver, the Philippine medal tally for the 20th Asian Games stands as of 6:54 p.m. of Oct. 2, at 27, with 16 bronze medals, seven silvers, and four golds. The Philippines is currently in 16th place, with China at the top spot, Japan in second, and the Republic of Korea in third.
