WWE superstar JD McDonagh suffers broken ribs, punctured lung during wrestling match
Professional wrestler JD McDonagh suffered broken ribs and a punctured lung during WWE's Monday Night Raw on Jan. 27.
McDonagh sustained the injuries during his World Tag Team Championship match with Dominik Mysterio of Judgment Day against Erik (Raymond Rowe) and Ivar (Todd James Smith) of War Raiders.
A clip on X showed McDonagh outside the ring doing a moonsault backflip through the middle rope to knock out Ivar.
He hit Ivar successfully but also hit the back of his head against the announcers' table.
Announcer Michael Cole noted that McDonagh is "lucky he doesn't have a damn broken neck."
After the match, the 34-year-old wrestler tweeted that he's "good," but added he won't be in the ring over the coming months due to his injuries.
"I've got a couple of broken ribs and a punctured lung, so I'm going to be out for a couple months," he said.
That means he'd miss Royal Rumble on Feb. 1. It's also unknown whether he'd show up at WrestleMania, considered the sport's biggest event, on April 19 and 20.
"All things considered, it could have been a lot worse, so I'm grateful for that," he continued.
McDonagh is from Ireland. According to his profile on the WWE website, he began his training at 12.
He joined WWE in 2016, debuting under the name Jordan Devlin, before being part of the main roster in 2023. He won the World Tag Team title with his Judgment Day groupmate Finn Balór in 2024.
Aside from WWE, McDonagh has also competed in NXT, NXT United Kingdom, British Championship Wrestling, Fight Factory Pro Wrestling, NWA Ireland, Over the Top Wrestling, Progress Wrestling, Pro Wrestling Zero1, and TNT Extreme Wrestling.
