Miss Grand International decided not to renew Miss Grand India's previous license holder—here's why
The Miss Grand International (MGI) clarified why they decided not to renew the contract with Glamanand Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., the previous Miss Grand India license holder.
In a social media post, MGI listed the key reasons, including repeated delays in license payment, violation of the contract agreement, lack of support and promotion, and insufficient promotion of the MGI brand. These prompted them not to renew their contract beyond 2025.
"The previous license holder consistently delayed license payments, with final payments made only a month before the final event. The contract was not fully finalized until the preliminary round," the MGI began.
It added, "Despite agreeing to send the winner titleholder to represent Miss Grand India in 2022 and inviting our reigning queen to their final event, the license holder failed to comply. Due to delays in their show, they crowned Miss Grand India 2022 as the 1st runner-up while our reigning queen was already en route to Delhi airport. This action violated the terms of our contract."
The statement also explained that the previous license holder failed to provide adequate support or promotion for Miss Grand India.
Likewise, MGI said that they have insufficiently promoted the MGI brand as the latter was "not promoted" to the level of MGI's expectations under their management.
"Given these issues, the MGI organization has decided not to renew their contract beyond 2025. A new license holder will be announced in the near future," MGI concluded.
MGI's statement came after the Miss Grand India Organization announced last Nov. 17 that it is cutting ties with MGI, saying that their decision came from recognizing that their "visions and goals" differ from MGI's.
"This step allows us to focus on exciting investments and projects that are already in motion and will soon be revealed to everyone," said Nikhil Anand, the president of Glamanand Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., in a statement.
It added, "Loyalty remains a cornerstone of our values, and it has greatly influenced this decision. We remain committed to prioritizing trust, alignment, and long-term relationships as we move forward."
While they parted ways with MGI, the organization said it takes "immense" pride in celebrating Rachel Gupta, who brought home the first-ever golden crown for the country at Miss Grand International 2024.
On Oct. 25, Gupta clinched the Miss Grand International 2024 crown, defeating the Philippines' CJ Opiaza at the 12th edition of the pageant held at the MGI Hall in Bangkok, Thailand. She took over the reign of Luciana Fuster Guzmán of Peru.
