Heads up, commuters: LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 to offer free rides on Dec. 20
Heads up, commuters! You can enjoy free rides at the LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 on Friday, Dec. 20.
"Ikinagagalak kong ipabatid sa ating mga mananakay na libre ang sakay sa LRT-1, LRT-2, at MRT-3 bukas, Disyembre 20, 2024," President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. announced in a statement posted on Facebook on Thursday, Dec. 19.
Marcos estimated that 1.1 million passengers will take the train rides, noting that it's the highest number of ridership recorded in 2024.
According to him, the move is a simple means to offset costs this holiday season.
"Nawa’y magdulot ito ng ginhawa at maramdaman ng lahat ang malasakit ng pamahalaan ngayong kapaskuhan," he added.
Amid the holiday rush, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has announced schedule changes for the LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 starting Dec. 16.
DOTr Sec. Jaime Bautista said the trains have operated earlier in the morning and later into the night, offering greater convenience to passengers.
"These adjustments will also allow our rail employees more time to spend with their families as they celebrate the holidays," Bautista added.
