Celebrate Earth Hour 2024 with these exciting activities and events

By Saihjee Galang Published Mar 22, 2024 5:31 pm

Looking for Earth Hour activities other than just turning off the lights and catching up on your favorite show?

Every March 24, the world switches off its lights at 8:30 p.m. in solidarity with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and its advocacy to take action on environmental issues.

But Earth Hour is about more than just darkness—it's a chance to take action.

Ahead, read about some ways you can get involved, along with other activities communities and organizations are doing:

WWF #BiggestHourForEarth

WWF Philippines, in partnership with the local government of Manila, will host this year’s Earth Hour event to be held on March 23, at the Kartilya ng Katipunan in Manila.

For 2024, they will be focusing on the issue of plastic waste with the theme “Switch Off Plastic Pollution, Give Hour for Earth.”

This event will start at 4 p.m. and end at 10 p.m. with the actual switching off of lights at 8:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.

Earth Hour Philippines 2024 music ambassador SB19’s PABLO, Lirah Bermudez, and Chedy and Miko, will be performing that evening, as well as other performers.

There will also be a sustainability fair, a live countdown, and a lineup of activities.

Promoting Sustainability at Araneta City

Araneta City is participating in the global light switch-off by preparing a lineup of activities for March 23 to promote sustainability and holistic well-being. Through the event, they also aim "to inspire action to save our planet and make a difference in all of our futures."

The activities include Give Life & Love, an event in Ali Mall where you can donate your pre-loved items for Caritas Manila, and a blood donation drive benefiting Red Cross Quezon City Chapter.

From March 18 to 20, join the Eco Park at Gateway Mall 1 for some eco-friendly games and installations. You can even participate in the Trade Your Plastic to Plant and turn over your plastic bags and bottles in exchange for a potted plant with a P300 minimum single receipt.

Lastly, at Farmers Plaza, in partnership with Quezon City Local government, POP QC: Eco Bazaar from March 20 to 23 will host 20 small and medium enterprises selling sustainable goods.
