Erap Estrada in ‘good spirits’ after testing negative for COVID-19

Published Apr 13, 2021 3:05 pm

Former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada has now tested negative for COVID-19, his son Jinggoy Estrada announced on Tuesday, April 13.

In a Facebook post, Jinggoy said that they are expecting Estrada to be transferred to a regular room soon as his health continues to improve following the negative COVID-19 test.

“We are happy to announce that my dad continues to improve and we expect that he can be transferred to a regular room soon,” Jinggoy said.

“His repeat RT-PCR (swab test) is now NEGATIVE!”

Jinggoy added that his father appears to be in “good spirits,” and is “conversing normally.” He noted that Estrada is still on “high flow oxygen support” but at a reduced rate.

“Again, we thank everyone for their continuous support and love and ask that you continue to pray for him and others who are afflicted with this awful and dreaded disease. Thank you so much,” Jinggoy said.

Estrada tested positive for COVID-19 last month and was placed on a ventilator due to his pneumonia last week.

Estrada served as president of the Philippines from 1998 to 2001. In 2001, he was ousted over corruption allegations. In 2007, he was convicted by the Sandiganbayan of plunder. He was pardoned by his successor, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. He served as Mayor of Manila City from 2013 to 2019.
