Adopted man discovers that his wife of six years is actually his sister
An adopted man found out that his wife is actually his sister after being married to her for six years. They also share two children.
In a now-deleted post on online community Reddit, the man shared that the shocking discovery came after some medical procedures he had to get to see if he could donate a kidney to his sick wife. “Just after our son was born, my wife fell ill and is now in need of a kidney transplant. We checked with her relatives and none were a good match or a viable donor, according to our inquiry,” he said.
He thought it would be “unlikely” but he decided to get tested to see if he was a match, anyway. The doctor then recommended additional examinations for “information from the HLA (human leukocyte antigen) tissue test results,” to which he agreed “without giving it much thought.”
The results showed an “abnormally high match percentage,” which left him “shocked and confused.”
“(The doctor) explained that because of how DNA information is passed down through generations, parents and children could have at least a 50% match and siblings could have a 0-100% match.”
“It was rare to have a high match as husband and wife. I asked what that meant,” he recalled.
“We’re related. No, I’m not kidding. I don’t know what to do moving forward but I know I may be wrong. She is my wife and the mother of our children,” he continued.
The man said he met the love of his life eight years ago during his trip to the latter’s hometown for work. They exchanged numbers and agreed to meet up every time he was in the area until he decided to work there for good.
