Baguio has new viral 'Cinderella' story told through poem as resident loses shoe
In 2023, Baguio went viral after a resident lost one of her sandals after midnight and ultimately retrieved it—in an apparent resemblance to the classic folk tale Cinderella.
This 2024, history seems to have repeated itself with the City of Pines having another Cinderella story.
In a Facebook post on March 11, the Baguio government’s Public Order and Safety Division (POSD) shared a photo of a black high-heeled pumps on a chair.
The post came with a 16-line poem with four verses having four lines each.
“A lone sole seeks its missing mate, / A crimson kiss upon its fate. / Four inches high, a daring stride, / Size forty-one, where could it hide?” the first verse read.
The POSD noted the shoe was found at the city’s O-shape overpass before 2 p.m. the previous day.
The post also has the hashtag, #POSDCinderellaStory.
The owner of the lost sandal in 2023 said she was supposed to wear her newly bought pair “for the first time” on Jan. 30 of that year, according to a Facebook post.
She then went out to try and trace back her steps “on that fateful day in the hopes that somebody had picked it up and safely kept it for her.”
As the woman was asking around the shops at Maharlika Livelihood Complex, somebody who was aware of the POSD’s post approached her.
“She was oblivious to how famous her sandal had become,” the POSD said.
