Andrea Brillantes on her self-care era after her recent breakup: 'There's so much more to life than just one boy'
For actress Andrea Brillantes, there's so much more to life than just one boy, stressing on the need to focus on self-care.
"Ang dami ko po kasi nang pinagdaanan sa life bakit ako mag-aano sa lalaki lang," Andrea said during a guesting over Vice Ganda's vlog uploaded on YouTube on July 16. "There’s so much more to this life than just one boy."
Though they didn't mention names throughout the video, Andrea and Vice were seemingly talking about her controversial breakup with basketball star Ricci Rivero last May after a year together.
Andrea noted she was sad for a month after the relationship ended.
"Hinayaan kong talagang malungkot ako, umiyak talaga ako," she said.
In trying to move on from a breakup, Andrea urged the public to look into things that may turn them off.
"Minsan, kung hirap kang mag-move on, kailangan mo talagang isipin ‘yung mga bagay na, ‘Talaga ba, iiyakan ko ‘yung lalaki na hindi naman nagpapa-laundry nang isang taon,' ganoon," she said. "Mare-realize mo na hindi pala siya ganoon ka-special," adding that it's one's love that made the recipient special.
Talking about cheating in a relationship, the 20-year-old actress noted that cheaters will never admit to their wrongdoing.
"Kung pinakita na sa iyo ni Lord ang dapat mong makita, alam mo na ang gagawin mo kung talagang vina-value mo ang self mo," she said.
There were viral photos of a woman in Ricci's residence, and Andrea reportedly saw them together. The basketball player in an interview explained that the woman was a companion of his friend, who was about to arrive later in the day. Andrea, however, in a later interview claimed that she saw the woman naked.
Andrea also shared with Vice her efforts, including spending about a million pesos for a gift. She, however, noted that there are no regrets in spending that much.
"Wala po akong pinagsisihan kasi nagmahal ako. Kung meron man akong pagsisisihan, iyong mga bagay na nasabi kong masakit," she said, noting she wasn't the "perfect" girlfriend.
Vice also asked her about the common dating practice in which couples return the gifts they gave to each other after calling it quits.
Andrea said she intends to pawn a wearable that was given to her. She didn't specify what the item was.
"Di ko na nakikita ang sarili kong susuotin iyon," she said. "Magkakapera pa ako doon kung ibebenta ko. May pang-shopping pa ako."
"Bakit isosoli ko pa sa kaniya, ang gagawin lang naman niya ibibigay lang din sa iba iyon," she added in jest, without naming names.
As to whether she'll retrieve what she had given, it appears to be a no.
"Pag kinuha ko lahat ng ibinigay ko sa kaniya, wala na siyang gamit sa condo niya," Andrea said.
Asked if she no longer wants a "basketball player" in her life, Andrea didn't rule out the possibility of meeting a "decent" basketball player someday though she's embracing singlehood at the moment. Early in the vlog, she also pointed out how her friends and family keep her happy at the moment.
"Ayoko na muna sa kahit na sino, kasi malay mo the one for me talaga is matinong basketball player," she said. "Pero ngayon po hindi talaga, wala muna."
Andrea said she's also the "date to marry" type, as she also dreams of becoming a mother someday. But to do that, she has to focus on herself for now.
"Paano ko maa-advice sa anak ko iyon kung di ko kaya gawin sa sarili," she noted. "Kailangan ko muna gawin ito at mapakita na may self-value ako, para magkaroon din ang anak ko ng self-value."
Ricci and Andrea became official on April 9 last year, when he asked for her hand in court after the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons won against the Far Eastern University Tamaraws.
They sparked breakup rumors in May, with some netizens speculating that beauty queen turned politician Leren Bautista was a third party in their relationship. Ricci celebrated his birthday with Leren in her bailiwick Laguna, distributing food packs to constituents.
Ricci has since cleared Leren's name, and in late June stressed that the breakup, which happened on the first week of May, was due to mounting problems in the relationship.
