Student gets arrested, put on trial for using AI during exam
A student in Turkey was arrested for attempting to cheat during a university entrance exam using a makeshift device connected to Artificial Intelligence (AI) to answer questions.
According to a report by Reuters, a student, whose identity was not disclosed, was arrested on the weekend after being caught cheating while taking a proficiency test.
Detailing the case, the student was seen behaving “suspiciously” during the exam. The police showed the technique, which was using multiple devices, including a smartphone, and a button-shaped camera connected to a router hidden in the sole of the suspect’s shoe. The artificial intelligence software was able to relay the answers through an earpiece.

After questioning, the person was then arrested and is set for a trial. The accomplice was also detained but was later released.
The use of AI rose to fame in 2022 with the launch of ChatGPT, which can generate essays, converse with complex topics, do math, and more.
The latest model of the OpenAI software, named GPT-4o, has been updated to see, hear, and be more conversational.
