UP remains top PH university in QS World University Rankings 2027

The University of the Philippines maintained its rank as the top Philippine university in the 2027 QS World University Rankings.

In the ranking released on June 18, UP ranked No. 402 with an overall score of 38.

The platform noted that UP is the only Philippine university in the Asia Pacific Rim Universities, a network of leading institutions across 19 economies recognized for academic and research excellence.

"UP is the only Philippine university in the ASEAN-European University Network, a network of universities that aim to promote the continuous internationalization of education and research. It is a founding member of the ASEAN University Network. As of April 2022, UP has international linkages with 350 higher education and research institutions in 43 countries," it added.

While it maintained its position as the country's top university, UP dropped 40 places from its No. 362 ranking in 2026.

Other Philippine universities also ranked lower this year. Ateneo de Manila University fell 70 places, from 511th to 581st, while De La Salle University dropped from 654th to the 751–760 bracket.

Meanwhile, the University of Santo Tomas slipped from the 851–900 range to the 951–1,000 band, and Adamson University moved down from the 1,001–1,200 bracket to the 1,201–1,400.

Topping this year's list is Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which retained its position as the world's leading university. It was followed by Imperial College London and Stanford University in a tie for second place. University of Oxford ranked fourth, followed by Harvard University in fifth and University of Cambridge in sixth.

Completing the top 10 were California Institute of Technology, ETH Zurich, University College London, and National University of Singapore.

The QS World University Rankings 2027 assessed more than 1,500 universities from 106 countries and territories, measuring performance across indicators including academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, employment outcomes, internationalization, faculty-to-student ratio, and sustainability.
