Sex trafficking victim sentenced to 11 years in prison for killing her abuser

A woman has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for killing the man who had sexually abused her as a teenager.

BBC reported that Chrystul Kizer, now 24, was charged with reckless homicide for shooting Randall Volar, 34, in 2018 when she was 17.

Volar had been filming his sexual abuse of Kizer for over a year before he got killed.

Kizer said she met Volar when she was 16, and he sexually assaulted her while giving her cash and gifts. According to her, Volar also sold her to other men for sex.

A Washington Post investigation found that Volar was abusing other dozen girls who appeared to be underage.

Four months before his death, police arrested Volar on charges of sexual assault but was released the same day.

In June 2018, Kizer traveled from Milwaukee to Volar's home in Kenosha. She shot him twice in the head, set his house on fire, and took his car.

Prosecutors said the killing was pre-meditated and a part of a scheme to steal Volar's car. Kizer's lawyers, meanwhile, said she acted in self-defense. She also argued that she should be immune from prosecution.

Kizer opted for a plea deal to avoid risking a possible life sentence at a trial. "I get to try to move on," Kizer told the Post while in jail.

She already served over a year and a half of her sentence while awaiting trial. After her release, Kizer will face five years of extended supervision.
