Jeremy Strong, Mikey Madison, and more to star in Facebook follow-up film 'The Social Reckoning' to release in 2026
The Social Reckoning, a follow-up film to the 2010 film The Social Network, is set to be released in 2026.
According to a report by Variety, the upcoming film, called a "companion piece" to the original movie, will be set nearly two decades after the invention of the largest social media platform. It will be based on the 2021 article, The Facebook Files, and will reportedly follow the true story of Frances Haugen (Mikey Madison), a young Facebook engineer, who sought the help of Jeff Horwitz (Jeremy White), a Wall Street Journal reporter, to expose the social network's hidden truths.
The Facebook Files is Horwitz's investigative story that exposed the company's inaction on its platforms' harmful social effects, like spreading misinformation to prioritize profit over users' safety, which also fueled the political violence.
Jeremy Strong, who starred in The Apprentice, will play Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. Other cast members include Oscar-winning Madison, White, and stand-up comedian-actor Bill Burr.
It will be written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, who will also co-produce with Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser. The filming is expected to begin next month and will be officially released on Oct. 9, 2026.
The Social Network, the 2010 movie about Facebook, earned a gross of $226 million (P13 billion) across the globe and earned eight Academy Award nominations, including a nod for Best Picture. It starred Jesse Eisenberg as Zuckerberg, as well as Andrew Garfield, Justin Timberlake, Dakota Johnson, and Armie Hammer, among others.
