Users say Facebook Messenger photos, videos, links now accessible after day-long glitch

The apparent Facebook Messenger glitch that made several users lose access to their photos, videos, and shared links appears to have been fixed already.

On the afternoon of May 4, users accessing the "View media, files & links" tab on Messenger reportedly saw nothing. Many of them expressed concerns over losing important files in their chatboxes.

"me and my evidence can't be gone messenger, this can't be," said a Twitter user who was among the first to complain about the matter. The tweet got over 30,100 likes, 9,000 retweets, and 3,700 quotes.

"pls bring back all the photos on facebook messenger," another Twitter user said, tagging Facebook's parent company Meta. "those are memories!! (na hindi na kaya i-keep ng phone storage ko hehe)."

Users were still able to access the usual Messenger features like writing messages, making audio and video calls, and sending content to private and group chats. They can still view the media, files, and links they had sent, but only by manually scrolling through their chatboxes.

The issue didn't only happen in the Philippines but also in other areas.

But starting 10 a.m. of May 5, some Twitter users said they can already access their media in the "View media, files & links" tab.

"Buti pa yung media, files and link ni messenger bumabalik," a Twitter user said.

(This author also lost access to his Messenger's "View media, files & links" tab on May 4, but already can on May 5, 10:18 a.m.)

Meta didn't issue any statement over the course of the issue.
