Ateneo Law Student Council says Facebook page hacked amid Small Laude, AGT posts
The Ateneo Law Student Council said its Facebook page has been involved in a hacking incident amid the random posts seemingly meant for fun and entertainment, including videos of content creator Small Laude and talent competition America’s Got Talent.
According to ALSSC secretary general Nina Bermejo, the entire council—including president Paeng Marbella, incoming 4th-year batch representative Jedi Supan, and incoming 3rd-year batch representative Gene Mercado—lost access to the page on June 11, but didn’t really mind it at first. “We thought nothing of it then since maybe someone may just have accidentally removed access,” she told PhilSTAR L!fe. “But when we started asking previous SC members, they all said that they didn’t have access anymore.”
The hacker began posting videos of Laude and America’s Got Talent as well as Father’s Day greetings and showbiz news on June 18. It started with a video of a 7-year-old contestant impressing AGT judges, but the one with the most reach so far is about Laude’s birthday with her family, which has garnered almost 8,000 reactions as of writing.
While the student council found the incident “really unfortunate” and condemned the hacker’s actions, Bermejo said they are thankful that the posts that have been made so far are “not offensive to the public just yet.”
“Our friends have reached out to us thinking that the birthday posts of Mrs. Small Laude were pretty entertaining. We're really hoping that the hacker will not post anything contrary to the law and/or good morals,” she added.
In a statement released on June 18, the ALSSC said they are doing their best to regain control of their Facebook page.
“We sent a ticket to Meta to recover the page. We’re also in contact with a lawyer from the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Center’s Inter-Agency Response Center for Account Recovery Assistance, an agency attached to the Department of Communications Technology. We reached out to them as well to address this issue. We also reached out to Facebook Philippines in the hopes that it will speed up the process,” Bermejo told L!fe.
The student council reminded the Ateneo community to disregard posts being shared on their Facebook page for now. “All concerns and updated posts will be on our official Instagram and Twitter pages,” the ALSSC officer said.
“The students may also contact us through email or through SC officers for any and all concerns that they may have,” she added.
PhilSTAR L!fe has reached out to Small Laude for comment, but has yet to receive a reply.
