Wife fines husband £444 for every month he skips household chores
A woman makes £444 (nearly P34,000) per month by charging her husband whenever he fails to do his share of the household chores.
In a Metro UK report, Jess Wright came up with a system that would help her and her husband, DJ, equally do household chores without having to argue.
She started giving invoices to him four years ago, after being frustrated at him for not following through with his tasks.
"I was putting in more energy to talk to him about it. Once you start adding kids, there is a lot more to talk about than these petty conversations,’ she told the outlet. "I decided to pull on his strengths—money motivation."
She shares that they usually assign chores evenly every week and charge him for missed chores based on how it annoyed her.
Little things like leaving the toothpaste out usually cost $5, while major tasks like forgetting to do the laundry and changing the car seat can cost between $10 and $25 and go as high as $50 depending on her mood.
His monthly fine can cost from $30 (P1,700) to $600 (P34,000). She added that the monthly fine could be used either to spoil herself or add to her savings.
"I’m being compensated for it [picking up the chore]. There is less resentment," Jess told the outlet. For his part, DJ, who shares three kids with Jess, said that it's also their way of keeping the peace in the household.
"I like the system. She’s not yelling. I just pay it and that’s it," he said, sharing that the system also helped him to keep track of his tasks.
"It definitely does work. It’s not that I never do the chores," he explained. "I never do it on purpose. It’s one of my weaknesses—I’m not very tidy."
"Some months I do better. It’s helped to have money attached to it," he added.
