'Halalan 2022,' K-dramas, Pinoy athletes among PH's top Google searches for 2022

Jeffrey Dahmer—the serial killer, cannibal, and rapist who was depicted in Netflix's viral miniseries DAHMER - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story—was the 10th overall top trending search.

The Filipinos' fascination for Korean dramas had also been so apparent, with zombie series All of Us are Dead topping the most searched television shows or series.

Other K-Dramas in the Top 10 include Extraordinary Attorney Woo (2nd), Business Proposal (3rd), Alchemy of Souls (4th), Twenty-Five Twenty-One (6th), Big Mouth (7th), and Our Beloved Summer (9th).

As for movies, Filipinos were fond of titles from Disney. Animated musical fantasy Encanto landed the top spot, while its song We Don't Talk About Bruno was the most searched song lyrics.

Other most searched movies included Marvel's superhero movies Eternals (3rd), Thor: Love and Thunder (5th), Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (6th), and Spider-Man: No Way Home (10th).

Google Year in Search 2022 was also greatly influenced by sports fans, with basketball player Ricci Rivero bagging the top spot in the most searched male personality list. The De La Salle Green Archer shooting guard made headlines when he got into a relationship with Andrea Brillantes this year. Other players on the list are Spanish Juancho Hernangomez (6th) and Filipino American Jordan Clarkson (8th).

Eight of the sports-related searches in the country were also about NBA. One was about PBA, while the other was about Deanna Wong, the volleyball player for Choco Mucho Flying Titans, the team that made recent headlines for allegedly snubbing fans.

Wong also landed third in Google's Year in Search 2022 under the female personalities category. It must be noted that most of her searches happened in April, when fans waited outside her house's gate in Cebu during the Holy Week.

Filipinos also didn't skimp on showbiz updates, with Amber Heard being the most searched female personality.

Heard's ex-husband Johnny Depp, who she shared headlines with for weeks during their highly publicized defamation case trial, was the second most searched male personality.

Kris Aquino, who has detailed her medical condition on social media as she receives treatment in the United States, was the second most searched female personality. Alba Baptista, girlfriend of Captain America star Chris Evans, and Bella Racelis, who was linked to Pinoy heartthrob Joshua Garcia, placed 9th and 10th.

Chris Rock, who was slapped by Will Smith during the 2022 Academy Awards, was the fifth most searched male personality.
