'Mahal ka namin, PNoy!': Celebs mourn death of former president Benigno Aquino III
Local celebrities took to social media to pay their respects to former president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, who passed away on Thursday morning, June 24.
It was earlier reported that Aquino was brought to Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City for an undisclosed reason.
“Sa mga susunod na oras, maraming sasabihin tungkol sa kanya—iba totoo, iba hindi. Pero ito ang masasabi ko—lahat ibinigay niya para sa Pilipino. Wala siyang tinira,” Aquino’s cousin, former senator Bam Aquino, said.

He added, “Ipagdasal natin na mahanap niya ang kapayaaan kasama ng ating Panginoon. Mahal ka namin, PNoy! Maraming Salamat.”
In an Instagram post, TV host Korina Sanchez thanked Aquino for his friendship and his “service for our country.”
“Sad day, Gone too soon. Many presidents have come and gone. But PNOY I knew. Thank you for your friendship. Most of all, gratitude for your service to our country,” Korina wrote.
“Godspeed. Bon voyage. Be happy in eternity with your parents, cello Filipino heroes,” she added.
Liz Uy, who was once Aquino's stylist and was also romantically linked to the former president, also posted a photo of Aquino.
"Years ago, I was given the chance to style the man that would be President. To this day, I remain honored and humbled by the privilege. Maraming salamat, Mr. President. For your selfless leadership and love for the Filipino people. We are forever grateful. ?," Uy wrote on the photo's caption.
Singer-songwriter Jim Paredes, known as a member of the famed OPM group APO Hiking Society, was one of the first celebrities to tweet about Aquino’s passing.
“A friend I greatly admired has passed on. It is shattering. I give you my fervent, respectful salute for all you have done.”

Liza Soberano, Janine Gutierrez, and Pokwang, among other celebrities, offered their sympathies for the Aquino family as well.
