Woman sentenced to 25 years in prison over DUI crash that left bride dead, groom injured hours after wedding
A woman is set to serve a 25-year jail sentence over a drunk driving crash that left a bride dead and her groom injured just a few hours after they got married.
According to a report by ABC News, Jamie Lee Komoroski from South Carolina pleaded guilty to several charges such as felony DUI (driving under the influence) and reckless homicide in line with the killing of Samantha Miller in 2023.
The blood alcohol level of Komoroski, 27, was found to have been three times over the legal limit by authorities when the incident happened in April last year. Police said she was driving 40 miles per hour over the speed limit before hitting a golf cart with Miller, the latter’s husband, Aric Hutchinson, and two others inside.
Miller and Hutchinson tied the knot in Folly Beach just hours before the crash.
Miller died, while Hutchinson and two other passengers survived after being critically injured. Hutchinson was described to have sustained "numerous broken bones and a brain injury" and had to undergo "one of two reconstruction surgeries."
Komoroski tearfully apologized to Miller’s loved ones in court. “I want the last thing that I say to be that, from the very bottom of my heart, with every fiber in my being, how sorry I am. I take full responsibility for my actions,” she said. “Hopefully one day, you wil be able to forgive me, but I know forgiveness must be earned.”
“Regardless of if that day ever comes, please know that I will always be devastated, deeply ashamed, and terribly sorry for what I have done,” she continued.
