20th Sta. Lucia Golf Tour wraps up as Lakewood Golf & Country Club claims the championship
Exceptional swings and smooth putts, camaraderie and two days of golfing fun—these were just some of the highlights that were witnessed during the recent 20th Sta. Lucia Golf Tour held at Da Nang, Vietnam, last April 22 to 25.
Members of participating Sta. Lucia-developed clubs enjoyed two popular golf courses in Da Nang: the Jack Nicklaus course at Legend Golf Resort and the course at Ba Na Hills.
It was a double victory for Nixon Lee of the Orchard Golf team, who was not only named the Overall Champion but was also the winner of green fee vouchers to all eleven golf clubs under the Sta. Lucia umbrella.
Lakewood Golf member Jonar Austria garnered the Overall Low Gross Champion Team after a stunning performance, in which he showed his mastery on the course in the two-day tournament proper.
The Lakewood Golf team halted an almost back-to-back victory for the Orchard Golf team as they clinched the Club of the Year trophy. The team from Rancho Palos Verdes Davao finished in third.
In the Class A Division, champion Tomas Jose Joson of the Lakewood Golf team rose above first runner-up Christopher Tan and second runner-up Necito Gumapac, both from the Rancho Palos Verdes Golf Team.
Strong performances were also seen in the Class B Division, with Jaemar Guiller Ayroso of the Lakewood Golf team coming out on top. Ayroso was closely followed by first runner-up Jeremiah Guanson of the Pinewoods Golf team and second runner-up Jose Tan of the Eagle Ridge Golf team.
The Lakewood Golf team continued its takeover in the Class C Division, with two of its members crowned as the champion and first runner-up, respectively. Wilson Charles Lim bested first runner-up Jomar Pestaño and second runner-up Clarion Patrick Macapagal of the Beverly Golf team.
In other parts of the competition, the Orchard Golf team made its presence felt in the Class D division with member Jose Lim taking the championship. Fellow Orchard member Melchor Libadia got the first runner-up spot, while Charlie Toh of the Rancho Palos Verdes Golf completed the trio as the second runner-up.
Also contributing to the Orchard Golf team’s dominant performance is Hazel Grecia, who was named the champion of the Ladies’ Division. Finishing in the first runner-up position is Marivic Macapagal of the Eagle Ridge Golf team, and second runner-up Evelyn Quinsay of the South Pacific Golf team.
In the Seniors Division, Lakewood’s Oscar Gallo scored the championship title with Youn Hwan An of the Eagle Ridge and Chunwu Shi of the Orchard Golf finishing in the first and second runner-up positions, respectively.
For the Super Seniors Division, 82-year-old Emy Castañeda III of Orchard Golf pulled off an impressive shot, which helped him earn the championship. First runner-up Randolph Cadiogan of Rancho Palos Verdes and second runner-up Dante Dela Cruz of Lakewood both fought for their rightful spots on the podium.
Dansker Tonelete of Okada Manila took home the championship trophy for the Sponsors Division.
The highlight of the awarding ceremony was a surprise raffle by Philippine Airlines, won by Rancho Palos Verdes member John Oberio—a round-trip ticket from any point in the Philippines to any Southeast Asian country. Another winning moment was when Mark Tonelete of the sponsors division won a round-trip ticket to Da Nang, also from Philippine Airlines.
Sta. Lucia President Exequiel Robles and Sta. Lucia Land Chairman Vicente R. Santos graced the awarding ceremony.
The 20th Sta. Lucia Golf Tour marks the second time the tournament was held outside the country. The first was in Thailand in 2012.
The 20th Sta. Lucia Tour is presented by Sta. Lucia Realty & Development, Inc., together with Davies Paints, Okada Manila, and Xiaomi Philippines. Philippine Airlines is the official airline partner. Co-presenters are K&G Golf Apparel and Accessories, VMJ Golf Maintenance & Construction, SotoGrande Hotels & Resorts Group, ExpressMiles Travel & Tours, TW Steel watches, and Innovator luggage.
