UP to accept freshman applications in January without UPCAT

The University of the Philippines will be accepting applications for first-year college on Jan. 7, 2021, following its cancellation of the UP College Admissions Test (UPCAT) in November.

In a statement released today, Dec. 18, the national university said that applications are for the Academic Year 2021-2022 and will be sent through a link to be provided by the university on or before Jan. 7.

In line with UP’s intent to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, applicants are directed to submit their requirements without taking the UPCAT. Instead, the University Councils, the highest policymaking body in the UP System, will implement an “additional assessment of incoming first-year students by academic units, if deemed necessary.”

Here are the steps to applying to UP in the coming year:

  1. Accomplish Form 1 (personal data sheet) online and upload your photo and electronic signature.
  2. Corresponding schools must then send your academic records on the “grades submission” section of the portal.

If your school is not on the university’s list of accredited institutions, inform your school’s officers to communicate with the UP Office of Admissions via [email protected].

“Applicants will be notified of such assessment or other additional requirements after the evaluation of their High School Records,” the statement said.

Deadline for submission of applications is on Feb. 15, 2021.
